Another round of the annual circus game on climate talks is here with the COP 21!
At the end of the 21st session of the Conference of Parties in Paris on December 11, 2015, it is expected that an ‘ambitious’ agreement will be signed aimed at coming up with ‘solutions’ to the current climate change crisis.
It is now twenty-one (21) years since governments within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) began discussing the impending climate crisis while frontline communities continue to bear aggravating impacts.
But how different will this conference be this time round? Will the agreement reached come up with strategies that address the root causes of the crisis? More important who will benefit from the solutions and who will be harmed?
In responding to this dilemma, collectives, organisations and social movements in general are resisting all over the world and particularly in the global south attempts by the cooperate to hijack the process.
Fahamu, IBON International and our allies are demanding for Systems Change Climate Now! We are aware that the threats posed by climate change are a consequence of unequal, colonial, economic and social power relations.
Comrades in the struggle, we are asking you to join the progressive forces that are building stronger, more diverse and radical movements, not only fighting against the root causes of climate change, but also those fighting against “solutions” being imposed from the top and benefiting the market.
You can strengthen the movement by:
