On September 26, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended in New York of the US the high-level meeting on Afghanistan’s reconstruction and regional cooperation, and said that China fulfills the commitment of supporting Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction through practical actions.
Wang Yi said that China has provided assistance in the major projects concerning people’s livelihood in various fields such as medical treatment, water conservancy, culture and education, and trained over 1,000 professionals of various fields for Afghanistan. China has actively implemented the consensus reached by the leaders of two countries, worked with Afghanistan in advancing new aid programs for Afghanistan, and sent out experts to assist Afghanistan in formulating national infrastructure development plans.
Wang Yi said that China participates in and coordinates Afghanistan-related international and regional cooperation with an active profile. China actively participates in confidence-building measures cooperation under the framework of the Istanbul process, has successfully undertaken counter-terrorism, drug prohibition and other training programs, and will continue to hold projects in fields such as disaster management.
Wang Yi said that China actively promotes China-US-Afghanistan and China-Pakistan-Afghanistan trilateral cooperation, and encourages all parties to form a joint force in their actions to assist Afghanistan. China and the US have held training programs for Afghan diplomats for four consecutive years, and this cooperation will be also extended to fields of agricultural technology and medical treatment. We welcome Afghanistan to give full play to its geopolitical and resource advantages, take an active part in China’s initiative of the Silk Road Economic Belt, and jointly strive for regional peace, development and prosperity.
Wang Yi stressed that achieving national stability and affluence of people in Afghanistan at an early date is the sincere wish of the Afghan people and common desire of the international community. China appreciates the efforts made by the national unity government of Afghanistan in achieving national stability and development, will firmly support the “Afghan-led and Afghan-owned” peace and reconciliation process, and is willing to continue playing a constructive role and work with other countries to make unremitting efforts to promote lasting peace, development and prosperity of Afghanistan and the region.
