TK Kurien the company’s chief executive and board member added that South Africa was a fabulous market to be in especially as a springboard to the rest of the continent.
“Our strategy here is not to take jobs to India but to the contrary we intend to create a local base and move that to the rest of the continent,” noted Kurien.
“Over the past three years we have been here, we have developed the local talent and out of 500 employees we have, about 40 per cent being locals.”
The company has trained about 30,000 teachers in India on modern technology, a similar project the organisation intends to implement in South Africa.
Wipro has been training a number of South Africans with a long term view of using their skills in its African expansion.
