Jakarta — Trade between Angola and Indonesia has been on the rise over the last few years at a pace of 27 percent a year, Angop learned.
The information was released by the Angolan Foreign minister, Georges Chikoti, after a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, on the fringes of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference the Asian nation is hosting.
The minister who would not mention the amounts involved in the trade, said the references of the cooperation were very important.
He added that the Indonesian authorities have also expressed readiness to increment the relations, especially through the increase and diversification of imports of Angolan products.
Georges Chikoti mentioned that the oil companies from both countries have already signed a deal to increment existing business cooperation which, according to him, should be encouraged by the political authorities.
The official stated that the Angolan authorities submitted a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement draft, which indicates the possibility of the signing of this agreement within a near future.
“When the Indonesian party complete the assessment of this accord, we could be in a position to eventually meet in an environment enabling regular visits between the sectors of both governments,” he said.
This, he added, will pave the way for a more enhanced cooperation.
The minister also said that the authorities of the Asian country intend to open an embassy in Angola, since this is the third Indonesian economic partner in the Southern African region.
“Therefore, there is a considerable amount of cooperation between the two countries,” he stressed.
The diplomat added that Indonesia is training some technicians in the field of liquefied natural gas.
The minister added that “We have also noted a great industrial capacity here and they are ready to enter into partnerships with Angolan firms”, in the areas of construction materials, construction, agriculture and others.
In the diplomatic domain, the minister mentioned the intention of Angola to open a mission in the region, including in East Timor and Australia, as soon as the country’s financial conditions improve.
With these celebrations the leaders from both blocs (Africa and Asia) are seeking to promote prosperity and peace and boost cooperation.
