Fahamu seeks to recruit a dynamic, organised, motivated and results-oriented individual for the position of programme officer of the Sex Worker Leadership Initiative working under the Adilisha programme. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya with partnerships with networks and activists in Eastern and Southern Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
· To provide a supportive, enriching training and care-based environment; where the trainees are respected and encouraged to dream, to develop their potential as organisers, think creatively and develop exciting visions for change in their lives, organisations and communities;
· To contribute to the development of a cadre of sex worker leaders who feel confident, competent and able to strengthen sex workers’ visibility and influence at many levels;
· To lead Fahamu’s efforts to strengthen and boost the social and psychological capital of sex workers by encouraging them to learn together and to exploit their talents for their own progress and that of the community;
· Strengthen networks of sex worker organisations and activists across Africa with multiple stakeholders including the media and policy makers through the provision of advocacy platforms at national and continental levels;
· Develop online platforms to provide on going support for sex workers movements;
· To ensure timely and accurate planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of project activities;
· To identify and recommend host organisations in Eastern and Southern Africa;
· To assist in fundraising efforts to sustain the sex worker movements’ actions;
· Represent Fahamu at appropriate fora.
Qualifications
To be successful the holder of this position must have the following:

Be a dedicated activist of sex workers’ rights and wellbeing.

Bachelor’s degree in education, human rights or related social sciences;

Over five years of running and coordinating a leadership programme;

Demonstrated experience in project management, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;

Proficiency in computer technologies such as word processing and spreadsheet software;

A track record is organising and running successful campaigns, especially using social media and other online platforms;
Personal Attributes

Candidates must be able to juggle different tasks simultaneously and prioritise their projects efficiently;

Fast-paced and results-oriented, flexible, well organised and self-sufficient;

Strong writing, interpersonal and oral communication skills are important;

Be willing to travel in the Eastern and Southern regions of Africa;

Ability to interact work with other team members at all levels within the organisation;

Be committed to the principles and values of Fahamu.
