Fahamu is seeking to recruit a dynamic Finance and Operations Manager to be in charge of the institution’s annual budget and lead the finance and operations staff based in Kenya, Senegal and the United Kingdom. We are particularly interested in hearing from suitably qualified candidates and citizens of Kenya.

The Manager of Finance and Operations reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the senior management team. S/he will be involved in strategic planning as well as a host of continuous improvement initiatives that will prepare this established organisation for tomorrow’s challenges. We require an excellent leader, people person, strategic communicator and relationship builder.
Specific Responsibilities
• Provide information and advice to the Board of Trustees and members of the senior management team to ensure that the financial and physical resources of the institution are managed optimally and sustainably;
• Lead the financial and operations functions so that they can effectively contribute to the achievement of the organisational objectives, including leading new initiatives;
• Represent finance and operations at both institution-wide strategic planning and decision making level and also at the Board level;
• Ensure ongoing risk analysis, effective planning and sound overall management and advise the leadership of Fahamu on risk management issues;
• Lead and support all programme officers in carrying out their duties in relation to financial matters and processes by providing them with information, advice, general support and capacity building as needed;
• Ensure that finance and operation units in all Fahamu locations are appropriately staffed, well led and managed for performance. Ensure continuous improvement in the service delivery from these units;
• Ensure optimal management of the financial, material and information resources handled by these units;
• Oversee the update, development and implementation of appropriate policies, processes and information systems in the areas of responsibility.
Professional skills and competencies
• Masters of Business Administration or equivalent and advanced finance/accountancy qualifications;
• At least ten years of experience in a senior management role;
• Strong track record in leading the finance function of an organisation operating in a complex, fast changing environment;
• Demonstrated ability to manage operations effectively;
• Experience in introducing and managing change initiatives in financial and operations management;
• Demonstrated ability to recommend or make decisions, including difficult ones, in a complex, changing environment;
• Ability and interest in continuous learning that deepens understanding of the dynamics of the internal and external environments in which a not-for-profit, publicly funded organisation operates today;
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural settings and to build productive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
• Working experience outside the candidate’s home country is desired; preference will be given to experience gained in francophone countries;
• Experience in similar organisations (non profit, public/private research, consulting firms) is desirable;
• Experience in business development and/or resource mobilisation highly desirable;
• Essential personal qualities: integrity, responsiveness and decisiveness.
